Would you like to work at the national referendum?
Reykjavík City is seeking staff for local electoral commissions to support the national referendum on EU accession talks scheduled for Aug. 29. This is an excellent opportunity for anyone interested in democracy in action to gain hands-on experience in a lively, engaging environment.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, Icelanders will vote on whether to reopen talks on Iceland's membership in the European Union (EU). Reykjavík will operate 25 polling stations across all city neighborhoods, each fully accessible to all voters. The City needs many people to fill positions on local electoral commissions.
Serving on a local electoral commission is a public service role that involves welcoming voters, distributing ballots, and tracking voter turnout and gender breakdown. We are seeking positive, detail-oriented, and service-minded individuals who are at least 18 years old, have legal residence in Reykjavík, and speak and understand Icelandic.
What's in it for you?
The shift is long: it begins at 8 a.m., polling stations close at 10 p.m., and workers should plan for an additional one to two hours for the final count. Partial shifts are not available—you must be present for the entire day. You will have scheduled meal and coffee breaks, and we will provide breakfast, lunch, coffee, and dinner throughout the day. The pay is 82,000 króna before taxes. If you are interested in working the elections, you can apply by adding your name to the list here.
