Tomorrow's artists bring the city center to life

The Street Theater and Art Groups at Hitt Húsið Youth Center offer young artists a creative space to develop diverse, vibrant projects. Continuing their summer tradition, these groups have organized a dynamic, lively lineup of events in the Reykjavík city center. Friday Butterflies is scheduled for this Friday — don't miss it!

These groups routinely feature the future stars of the Icelandic arts, offering a perfect opportunity to witness young people's creativity firsthand and watch their ideas come to life. 

Friday Butterflies in the city center — June 26, noon to 2 p.m.

On Friday, June 26, the city center will come alive with the art groups' performances, music, and exhibits.

The events take place at several locations across the city center, repeating throughout the day at each venue so visitors can move between them and enjoy the programming in any order they choose.

Program:

  • Hitt Húsið Street Theater @ Lækjargata
    Squish monsters roam Lækjargata, beckoning passersby to pause and discover unexpected beauty in the urban space. 
  • Duo Koblía @ House of Collections
    Violin and piano performances feature classical works by Beethoven, Schubert, Chopin, and others. 
  • All in Order? @ Corner of Skólavörðustígur and Laugavegur
    This exhibit showcases "the greatest artwork of all time." 
  • The Modernist's Experience @ Corner of Austurstræti and Pósthússtræti
    This performance explores origins through a single, continuous stream-of-consciousness sentence.  
  • The Art Network @ Grófin City Library
    This project showcases samples of the summer's work and fosters a live creative exchange with visitors. 
  • On Red Socks @ Grófin City Library
    This textile work draws inspiration from the struggles and solidarity of Icelandic women. 
  • Conversation with the Piano @ Neskirkja
    Classical music engages in a living dialogue with the piano. 
  • Statue Cove @ Vatnsberinn, Lækjargata / Bankastræti
    This performance unfolds at the Vatnsberinn statue in the urban space. 
  • The City and the Flowers @ The Greenhouse at Lækjartorg
    This photographic work examines natural beauty within the city limits. 
  • Sound Worlds in Reykjavík @ Laugavegur
    Visitors can help create a collective sound piece drawn from the city itself. 

Vængjasláttur — closing celebration July 9

The Art Groups' closing celebration, Vængjasláttur, takes place in the city center on July 9, 4-6 p.m. The Hitt Húsið Art Groups will post more details on their Facebook page as the date approaches.
