A successful summer for the School of Work
Reykjavík's School of Work wrapped up its season in mid-August, and the students performed exceptionally well. A group from the Reykjavík Brass Bands closed out the season by performing a selection of pieces for city employees, visitors, and passersby on a beautiful summer day. Throughout the summer, this ensemble delighted audiences with their music at the Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo.
Beautifying the city's neighborhoods
School of Work students make a real difference by helping beautify the city. More than 3,900 students enrolled in the School of Work this summer, tackling gardening projects across the city alongside roles at after-school programs, preschools, sports clubs, scout groups, community organizations, and partner institutions.
A cohort of 17-year-olds also completed an eight-week placement. They tended gardens at Einarssafn, Breiðholtsskóli, and Lauganesskóli. These teens expressed great satisfaction with their summer and overall experience at the School of Work.
Participants worked in every neighborhood across the city from workplaces based inside primary schools. They also received financial literacy education through peer education sessions held at the schools. Staff from the Reykjavík Art Museum led additional educational sessions for the students.
The work proved incredibly varied, offering ample opportunities for students to explore new experiences at the School of Work.
