Reykjavík City seeks partners

The next steps in preparing new mixed residential neighborhoods in Hólar in Úlfarsárdalur have been taken. This development aims to bolster communities in eastern Reykjavík through targeted and sustainable residential construction.

Market survey

As part of these preparations, Reykjavík City is currently conducting a market survey to gauge interest, capacity, and market feedback on the planned development of a new residential neighborhood in Hallar. The market survey is part of the City's research and is not a tender, but is instead intended to help shape the project's ongoing development and guide decision-making.

The survey examines the scope and planning of the development, the integration of housing and infrastructure, potential partnership arrangements, financing, and timelines. The City is also seeking input on how to best ensure quality, sustainability, and a viable development timeline given current conditions in the construction market.

The results of the market survey will help Reykjavík City refine the project and guide the process for the next stages of planning and development in Hallar.

"This is one of the top priorities for the coalition parties in the City Council, and it's a significant and welcome milestone that this major public interest project has reached this stage," says Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir. "Through competitive negotiations for an infrastructure partnership, we are ensuring that the infrastructure for the new neighborhood is developed in parallel with the neighborhood itself. I'm very excited to see the outcome because it is crucial that we find new ways to accelerate the development of new neighborhoods and increase the supply of diverse housing options so everyone can find a home."

Bolstering the existing community

The development in Hallar is part of the City's long-term vision for a diverse housing stock and vibrant districts where public life, transportation, and the environment are in balance.

The goal of the development is to strengthen the City's housing market and use land efficiently through diverse and mixed-use development. The focus is on a comprehensive approach where residential housing, infrastructure, and the local environment form a cohesive community, with excellent public transportation links and access to the area's natural assets.
