The winning design of the idea search for the framework plan covering the Hallar area and its surroundings in Úlfarsárdalur will be presented at a public mayoral housing forum on Friday, March 20.

The idea search focused on creating a framework plan guided by a clear, comprehensive vision for the area. Key considerations included the character of the built environment, land use, development patterns, density, housing mix, infrastructure, and connections to neighboring districts, natural surroundings, and public service networks. The idea search aimed to identify the optimal vision and development solutions for each part of the area.

Participating architecture firms were selected for their forward-thinking approach, design sensitivity, and experience developing framework plans and new neighborhoods in Reykjavík. The proposal for further development was selected anonymously, and a service agreement will then be drafted to continue the framework plan and prepare a detailed land-use plan for part of the area.

The selection panel consisted of five staff members from Reykjavík City's Environment and Planning Department, with expertise in urban planning, landscape architecture, architecture, transportation, and urban design. Staff from various roads and infrastructure divisions within the Environment and Planning Department, the Office of the Mayor, and Reykjavík City's Department of Welfare also advised the panel.
