Mayor sends letter of solidarity to Nuuk

Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir today sent a letter of solidarity to Avaaraq S. Olsen, mayor of Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq (Nuuk). In the letter, she extended warm greetings to the mayor and residents and affirmed the city's desire to show symbolic solidarity with its dear neighbors in the spirit of West Nordic cooperation.

"Reykjavík stands with you!" the letter says, noting that the relationship between Reykjavík and Nuuk has strong roots, including as Nordic capitals in the Arctic. "We share common values of justice, respect for culture and the self-determination of communities, equality, and a shared vision of peaceful and sustainable Arctic communities."

"Nuuk is not only a sister city of Reykjavík City but also a trusted partner, including through the West Nordic Capital Fund. At a time of international challenges that affect the status of Greenland and the Arctic, Reykjavík City stresses the importance of making it clear that we stand with the residents of Nuuk and the Greenlandic people."
