Lots of fun activities during winter break
Winter break is starting, and Feb. 19-22 will offer plenty of activities around the city for those looking to have a great day. Adults with children will get free admission to Reykjavík City museums during these days.
Reykjavík City Library
Reykjavík City Library offers an exciting and diverse program for children and families. Activities include fun quizzes, bingo, workshops, music, scavenger hunts and much, much more. There's no need to fill your storage with costumes because costume swap markets will take place at no fewer than four Reykjavík City Library branches! Check out the program and stop by for a visit - all events are free.
Reykjavík Art Museum
Reykjavík Art Museum offers an exciting and creative program where young visitors can play, learn and create in the museum's vibrant and inspiring environment. At Hafnarhús Museum, for example, you can build robots inspired by the Lavaforming exhibit or create flower images inspired by works by Katrín Elvarsdóttir. There's also a scavenger hunt at Kjarvalsstaðir Museum and art museum bingo at Ásmundarsafn Museum, where artist Finnur Arnar has set up shop and is painting a work on the dome's ceiling!
Free for adults with children during these days.
City Museum
Reykjavík City Museum will have a diverse and entertaining program.
At Árbær Open Air Museum, you can make crafts of all the cute farm animals and perhaps go on an educational scavenger hunt around the museum grounds. At Reykjavík Museum of Photography, you can enjoy a cozy crafting session in a creative shadow and collage workshop. Kids can then find their inner Viking at The Settlement Exhibition on Aðalstræti, create Viking halls, ships and beards, and try their hand at a rune scavenger hunt. At Reykjavík Maritime Museum, funny sea creatures have hidden themselves on the upper floor, while the lower floor will host a drawing workshop where little explorers can consider what to pack in a big travel chest for a long voyage across the sea.
Free for adults with children during these days.
Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo
For winter break, additional activities will be added to the schedule of animal activities at Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo. In addition to the regular animal program, there will be horse training in the horse enclosure both days at 1 p.m. and a discovery table in the sheep house from 10 to 11 a.m. and 2 to 3 p.m. The table will feature various items related to the animals that visitors can handle and learn about. Visitors can also try a scavenger hunt using the zoo's app, Viskuslóð.
The zoo will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. as on other days. The Bæjarins beztu hot dog concession, which is open on weekends during the winter months, plans to be open on winter break days as well.
