The Wellbeing Economy Forum is underway at Harpa. Experts and elected officials have gathered to discuss the role of quality of life in building stronger communities.

The Wellbeing Economy Forum unites politicians, policymakers, academics, experts, and advocates who share a commitment to improving societal wellbeing — expanding the conversation beyond economic metrics to include social and environmental measures.

Mayor Heiða Björg Hilmisdóttir participated in panel discussions at the event today. The discussion centered on an economic vision for the future of child welfare. Mayor Heiða Björg highlighted how Reykjavík City's procurement and investment decisions can make a meaningful difference in children's wellbeing. She also outlined Reykjavík City's new Food Policy, designed to set a clear direction for how the city approaches food and ensure all residents — regardless of financial circumstances — have equal access to healthy, nutritious, and enjoyable meals.

The Wellbeing Economy Forum is supported by the JA PreventNCD project, a European initiative working to reduce the burden of chronic diseases and cancer across the continent through a focus on prevention, coordinated policies, and targeted action to address social inequality and risk factors. The European Union leads JA PreventNCD, with Iceland serving as a key partner country.

This marks the fourth annual Wellbeing Economy Forum. President of Iceland Halla Tómasdóttir serves as patron of the Wellbeing Economy Forum, while Dóra Guðrún Guðmundsdóttir, Director of Public Health at the Office of the Director of Health, chairs the event.
