Ingunn Ólafsdóttir appointed internal auditor for Reykjavík City
The City Executive Council has approved Ingunn Ólafsdóttir's appointment as internal auditor for Reykjavík City. She brings nearly two decades of experience in internal auditing, controls, and administrative oversight.
She is a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and holds a Certification in Risk Management Assurance (CRMA). She holds a BA in political science from the University of Iceland, an MA in European administrative studies from KU Leuven in Belgium, and an MA in international relations from the University of Kent in England.
Ingunn has served as Reykjavík City's acting internal auditor for nearly two years. Before stepping into this role, she became program director of Internal Audit and deputy internal auditor in 2021. Previously, she spent about six years as internal auditor at the University of Iceland, where she built the university's internal audit function—and that of its affiliated institutions—from the ground up, developed operating procedures, helped establish an Audit Committee, and worked closely with the university president, senior leadership, and the National Audit Office. Earlier in her career, she worked as a project manager in Deloitte's risk advisory practice, alongside other roles.
The city posted the internal auditor position on Feb. 12 and received five applications. Following the City Executive Council's rules for senior leadership appointments, an advisory qualifications committee was formed to evaluate the candidates.
The committee's final report concluded that Ingunn is the most qualified candidate to step into the role of internal auditor for Reykjavík City. Her education and professional certifications reflect a strong academic foundation and specialized expertise ideally suited to a large organization like Reykjavík City. "She meets the educational and competency requirements for the position and has demonstrated—both in previous roles and in her current work at Reykjavík City—the ability to lead internal audit and consultation functions with firmness, professionalism, and independence."
