Informational meeting: Sæbraut Highway Cap
Reykjavík City, the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, and Transport for the Capital Area will host an open informational meeting about the Sæbraut Highway Cap on Monday, June 1, at 5 p.m. at Vogaskóli.
The Sæbraut Highway Cap is part of the capital area's Transportation Charter and will extend approximately 1 kilometer, from the split-level interchange at Miklabraut north to the intersection of Kleppsmýrarvegur and Skeiðarvogur. The top of the highway cap will feature a new green neighborhood park linking the Vogahverfi and Vogabyggð districts.
The Sæbraut Highway Cap is designed to improve environmental quality, better connect surrounding neighborhoods, ease traffic flow along Sæbraut, and help clear the path for the CityLine. The structure is also intended to improve freight traffic flow to Sundahöfn port and is one of the prerequisites for the Sundabraut road project.
At the meeting, Reykjavík City, together with consultants from Arkís Architects, Landslag, and Tröð YouthWorks design studio, will present the detailed development plans currently out for public notice. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, along with consultants from Verkís Engineering, will present the construction plans for the Sæbraut Highway Cap as well as the project's environmental impact assessment.
Additional data on the project is available through the Urban Planning Portal. The public comment period is open through June 24.
