Idea competition for cohousing communities extended

During the 20th century, many well-designed multi-family residences were built in Reykjavík with shared spaces as an essential part of their overall planning.

The application deadline for the cohousing community idea competition has been extended. The new deadline to submit applications is June 16 at 11:59 p.m. Submit applications through Reykjavík's procurement portal.

The project focuses on developing new housing approaches that prioritize community building, shared spaces, and diverse living arrangements. The goal is to create residential neighborhoods where residents have a greater voice in shaping their immediate surroundings and shared spaces play a more meaningful role than in traditional multi-family residences.

The initiative has generated strong interest since its introduction at the mayor's housing meeting in late March; this deadline extension ensures interested teams have adequate time to prepare their applications.

Five-member selection committee

A five-member selection committee will evaluate all applications. Three members represent Reykjavík City's Department of Environment & Planning: Þórhildur Bryndís Guðmundsdóttir, Hjördís Sóley Sigurðardóttir, and Margrét Lára Baldursdóttir. The two external specialists serving on the committee are Anna María Bogadóttir and Dagur Eggertsson. The

committee expects to announce the results in mid-August.
