Changes to paid parking near Hallgrímskirkja
Reykjavík City's Environment & Planning Council has approved a proposal to change the rules for paid parking near Hallgrímskirkja.
This change will expand tariff zone 2, making all parking spaces on Skólavörðuholt require payment, including the parking area between Reykjavík Technical College and Hallgrímskirkja.
The change is consistent with regulations on the use of parking spaces and fee collection in Reykjavík, as well as procedures for implementing new tariff zones on municipal land. Previously, only some parking spaces in the area required payment, but this decision will standardize the rules for the entire area. These are the only changes being implemented.
The change aims to improve the availability of parking in the area, reduce long-term parking, and ensure better access for visitors and service users. Surveys of parking usage show heavy demand, especially during peak hours, prompting further action.
The proposal was submitted to the capital area police in accordance with the Traffic Act and was approved without comment. Parking in the area falls under tariff zone 2 and will have the same paid parking hours as other areas within that zone.
Paid parking between Hallgrímskirkja and Reykjavík Technical College will take effect following the publication of a notice in the Official Gazette and the installation of signs indicating the new rules.
