Reykjavík City's home care services have relocated to new, vastly improved facilities at two locations across the city. Home Care Services Southeast is now located at Höfðabakki 9a, while Home Care Services Northwest is at Lágmúli 4.

Better working conditions

Previously, home care services operated out of three locations: Hraunbær, Efstaleiti, and Vitatorg. The new locations offer improved working conditions, expanded operational capacity, and better accessibility.

Home care services encompass both home nursing and home support. They also feature several specialized groups, such as the virtual service center and a dementia team. Since 2009, Reykjavík City has provided home nursing under a service agreement with Icelandic Health Insurance.

Hundreds of people work in home care services. This includes health care professionals providing home nursing and a diverse staff delivering home support and wide-ranging services—all aiming to provide person-centered care that maximizes each individual's health, well-being, and independence.

The relocations are part of broader organizational changes aimed at improving and standardizing services delivered in people's homes. The goal is to ensure all residents can access consistent services regardless of where they live in the city.

"The service needs within home care are changing rapidly and, in many cases, becoming both more intensive and complex. Today, we provide more varied and specialized health care in people's homes than ever before. That calls for new approaches to planning, greater integration of services, and a higher level of staff specialization. With these changes, we can better ensure consistent and safe services across the entire city, so older adults receive the right support at the right time in their own homes for as long as possible," says Berglind Magnúsdóttir, Head of Office for geriatric affairs at the Department of Welfare at Reykjavík City.

Positions for nurses are advertised regularly to help build a strong team. Nurses seeking new challenges are encouraged to check the Reykjavík City website, where new opportunities are posted frequently.
