Better conditions and more space at new family home

The Mánaberg family home has relocated within the city. A celebratory gathering last Friday marked the opening, bringing together Mánaberg staff, Reykjavík Child Protection Services, and other friends and supporters.

Mánaberg cares for children who cannot remain at home because of difficult circumstances. These children live at Mánaberg temporarily. Families also stay there for three to six months at a time while parents or guardians receive support to build their parenting skills.

Mánaberg operated on Laugarásvegur for about 30 years. That building had aged beyond its useful life and could no longer meet the facility's needs, including basic accessibility requirements. After operating out of temporary quarters for several months, staff welcomed the recent move to the new location.

The new building offers excellent conditions for children and their families. It features spacious rooms with private bathrooms and well-appointed common areas. Mánaberg staff worked hard to create a warm, homelike atmosphere so that children and their families feel as comfortable as possible during their stay. Working conditions for staff have also significantly improved at the new location.
