Officials presented Reykjavík's Housing Plan 2026-2035 today at the mayor's housing meeting at City Hall.

Reykjavík has grown rapidly, adding an average of more than 1,100 residential units annually in recent years, primarily in established neighborhoods with existing infrastructure. The new plan aims to continue supporting robust residential development, projecting up to 16,000 new homes over the next 10 years. Other key objectives include securing a long-term target of 35% non-profit-driven housing, expanding the rental supply for lower-income residents, and designating new development sites.

Reykjavík’s Housing Plans address housing market challenges and Reykjavík City housing goals. They are based on Reykjavík City housing policies, legal frameworks, and housing market analyses.

The Housing Plan lays out the main construction areas in Reykjavík, plot allocation, financial participation for housing, cooperation with non-profit housing associations, purchasing plans of Félagsbústaðir, and the City's social housing solutions.

The City Executive Council approved Reykjavík's Housing Plan 2026-2035 yesterday, sending it to the City Council for final approval on Tuesday, April 14.
