The City Council approved a lease agreement today with GTS ehf. for the lease of part of the building at Þönglabakki 4, which houses the Mjódd bus station. The facility will serve as a central transportation hub for the capital area.

The building has housed a transportation center that plays an important role in the Strætó bs. route system. Thousands of people pass through the center daily, making it an important part of the travel experience and customer service for Strætó bs. Mjódd serves as a key connection point for both capital area and rural buses operated by Strætó bs.

The lease includes service space on the south side of the building and use of waiting areas on both sides of the first-floor walkway, totaling about 426 square meters plus common areas. The tenant will also have use of part of the parking area.

The City has been looking for some time for interested parties to operate services at the bus station and serve Strætó bs. passengers, and has now reached an agreement with GTS ehf. The operation will offer diverse services for Strætó bs. passengers, be open to everyone, and extend operating hours to match Strætó bs.'s schedule.
