Wonderful Neighborhood Days in Breiðholt
Mayor Heiða Björg's Neighborhood Days in Breiðholt ran from Sept. 29 through Oct. 3. The mayor traveled throughout the neighborhood, speaking with residents and visiting various institutions.
Mayor Heiða Björg met with managers from the welfare department and Department of Education & Youth in Breiðholt.
Heiða Björg also stopped by Breiðholtslaug Pool to meet with a coffee group that gathers there regularly. The pool plays a major role in Breiðholt's community spirit and is a key service for residents. Breiðholtslaug features both indoor and outdoor pools and slides. The sauna rooms earned recognition from the Finnish Embassy as the best sauna in the city.
Heiða Björg was invited for waffles and coffee by residents in Árskógar, who went all out with refreshments.
Her tour included visits to Hólabrekkuskóli and Hálsaskógur Preschool, where a complete renovation of the buildings is nearing completion. At Gerðuberg, the center was bustling with activity, as seniors were playing whist and discussing current events. Heiða Björg also learned about the activities of sports clubs ÍR and Leiknir.
On the afternoon of Oct. 1, visitors and passersby were offered coffee and conversation in Mjódd, providing an opportunity to chat about the neighborhood. After the coffee chat, they walked around Mjódd with Community Police and Flotinn. The mayor also held a productive meeting with young people in Breiðholt and heard what was on their minds.
Another stop was the district depot in Jafnasel, where she toured the ongoing construction related to Vetragarður. The day concluded with a meeting with leaders of parent associations in Breiðholt.
