The Winter Lights Festival launches today, bringing a vibrant energy to city life in the coming days. All events are themed around light and darkness in various ways. Admission is free for all events.
The festival opens tonight, Friday, February 7, at 6:30pm at Ingólfstorg. Everyone is welcome to attend. Mayor Einar Þorsteinsson will kick off the festival by illuminating the light art installation Lightbattle III. Created by Dutch light design company Venividimultiplex, which specializes in light art, this interactive installation has been showcased worldwide to critical acclaim.
The installation features two interactive light arches with a total of six bicycles. Participants hop on the bikes and pedal as fast as they can. As visitors pedal the bikes, they generate power to illuminate the LED light arches. The faster they pedal, the more vibrant the colors become, creating a mesmerizing display of light and color.
The festival features three main attractions: the Light Trail, Museum Night happening tonight, and Pool Night taking place tomorrow.
