Tree removal completed in Öskjuhlíð

Reykjavík City has completed the removal of trees in Öskjuhlíð that the Icelandic Transport Authority requested be cut down to lift restrictions on runway 13/31 (east-west runway).
All trees that, according to measurements commissioned by Isavia, extended into the so-called VSS obstacle surface have been removed, approximately 1,600 trees in total. The overall project is not yet complete, as workers still need to clear trunks and branches from the forest. A redesign process has begun to preserve the area's status as one of the city's most popular recreational forests.
