Traffic light upgrades on Höfðabakki
Upgrades to the traffic lights on Höfðabakki are currently underway. The older traffic light equipment had reached the end of its useful life and needed replacement. The work has been completed in phases this fall and has mostly gone smoothly.
Traffic light systems have been activated at the following intersections:
- Höfðabakki/Bæjarháls
- Höfðabakki/Vesturlandsvegur
- Höfðabakki/Dvergshöfði
Work at Höfðabakki/Stórhöfði and Höfðabakki/Bíldshöfði is scheduled for completion before the end of the year, and the new traffic light systems will be activated at that time. The goal is to optimize traffic flow at all intersections through synchronization, which will allow drivers to maintain a steady speed through several intersections without stopping at a red light.
