More than 20,000 people are estimated to have attended 400 events during the Children's Culture Festival, which wrapped up yesterday.

The Children's Culture Festival in Reykjavík took place citywide and was extremely successful. Festival exhibits drew large crowds, and children loved both performing and enjoying everything the festival had to offer.

Out to play

This year's festival theme was "out to play," and children created all kinds of projects connected to the theme. The band Inspector Spacetime wrote the song Hlaupastingur (Side Stitch) in collaboration with fourth-grade students, and the roof nearly blew off Harpa when the song premiered at the Children's Culture Festival opening ceremony.

The festival offered large and small exhibits along with diverse arts events both for children and featuring children. Children largely took over the city's cultural life during the six-day festival, displaying their work at respected cultural institutions.

Record attendance at Adventure Palace

Nearly 8,000 people attended the Adventure Palace program at the Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo over the weekend. People of all ages gathered and participated in the fun-filled program featuring dance, singing and music — and all the animals in the park were in a festive mood too.

The seals Garðar and Kópur had a great time in the seal pool and enjoyed the activities.

Children got to watch the animals being fed, which attracted huge interest. Hringleikur presented top-notch circus acts on Saturday, Dans Brynju Péturs showcased several carefully selected pieces, and Dans Afrika featured a rhythmic drum ensemble and dancers who performed stunning routines.

Tufti entertained children at Adventure Palace in the Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo over the weekend.

Sunday featured a drawing workshop with Brian Pilkington, and Tufti the Troll was an absolute sensation when he appeared at the zoo. He greeted the children, tried to grab their hats and made attempts to snag bites of the snacks or hot dogs the children were enjoying, but had no luck.

Numerous people worked tirelessly to prepare and organize the Children's Culture Festival, including Reykjavík City staff from preschools, primary schools, recreation centers, cultural institutions, and individuals. The festival wouldn't be as magnificent without their contributions. Thank you for your contribution.

Children had the opportunity to create and enjoy with family and friends. Thank you for your contribution — it's invaluable.

Thanks for coming — see you next year!
