Study on university students' travel habits

A new study on the travel habits of students at the University of Iceland and Reykjavík University is launching. The study is a joint project of Reykjavík City, the University of Iceland, and TØI – Transportøkonomisk institutt in Oslo. Students are encouraged to participate.

Chance to win 75,000 króna gift certificate

To participate, students need to download an app that tracks their transportation methods. If participants use the app throughout the entire study period, they will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a 75,000 króna gift certificate. The study runs through Oct. 12, 2025.

The app, called SPOR, is from Motiontag, a company that specializes in tracking transportation methods and has been used in international research and by public transportation companies.

The research is being conducted by Reykjavík City as part of two ongoing international projects, AMIGOS and the Pilot project, The study is for students in Reykjavík University and the University of Iceland and is meant to better understand the travel habits of university students.

Data protection ensured

Students must register to participate. They will need to create an account, after which they'll receive a link to download the app. Individual responses and location data will not be published or shared with any third party. All responses and location data will be handled with complete confidentiality, and under no circumstances will it be possible to trace or process collected data from individual parties.

The data will be stored until the projects end in 2027 and for a maximum of three years after they conclude. The participating parties have established a data processing agreement to ensure the security of personal information in accordance with data protection regulations.
