Stricter operating permit requirements for Fossvogur Crematory
Reykjavík Public Health has revised the operating permit for the Reykjavík Cemeteries' crematory in Fossvogur. The permit is valid for only one year and includes stricter conditions designed to reduce pollution from the facility.
Under the new operating permit, cremations will be prohibited during certain weather conditions, such as still air or very light winds when smoke dispersal is limited. Additionally, after six months, the number of cremation days will be reduced from five per week to four, restricted to weekdays.
Cremations will only be permitted between 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 a.m., and for no more than eight consecutive hours within that period.
These changes aim to ensure that operations in Fossvogur cause minimal environmental impact and disruption to residents.
