Street closures in the city center for the 2025 women's strike
Street closures will be in place in the city center of Reykjavík for the women's strike on Friday, Oct. 24.
The Women's Year executive board has called for a women's strike on Oct. 24, marking 50 years since the first Women's Day Off was held in Iceland. This year's women's strike program will feature two parts: the first is a historical walk through milestones in the women's rights movement, and the second is an outdoor rally at Arnarhóll. Many women and non-binary adults participated in last year's outdoor rally at Arnarhóll, and turnout is expected to be even higher this year due to the milestone anniversary.
Parts of the city center to be closed
Part of the city center will be closed to traffic from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 24 for the women's strike.
Visitors are advised to review the closure map carefully before traveling to the city center. Arrive on foot or by bicycle.
Some disruptions to Strætó Public Transport routes are expected. Information will be available at straeto.is as the date approaches.
Use the parking garages
People driving to the city center are encouraged to use the city's parking garages.
