Solidarity Creates Community – Reykjavík Pride 2025
Reykjavík Pride 2025 launched today on the walkway at Reykjavík City Hall. The launch kicks off one of the most colorful weeks of events of the year, featuring a diverse program focused on rights, culture, and visibility for LGBT+ people. This year’s Reykjavík Pride theme is Solidarity Creates Community.
Helga Haraldsdóttir, chair of Reykjavík Pride, spoke first, reflecting on the festival’s history and officially opening the celebration. Sanna Magdalena Mörtudóttir, President of the City Council, gave a brief speech, stating that Reykjavík City is a proud sponsor of the festival. After the ceremony, Rainbow Flags were raised to full staff on the flagpoles along the walkway.
The launch marks the start of one of the most colorful and entertaining weeks of events of the year, featuring a diverse program focused on rights, culture, and visibility for LGBT+ people. This year’s Reykjavík Pride theme is Solidarity Creates Community.
A diverse range of educational programs and events will take place throughout the festival from Aug. 5–9.
In honor of Reykjavík Pride, a large Rainbow Flag now decorates Reykjavík City Hall. Reykjavík City is a proud supporter of the festival, which is one of the city’s official festivals.
The Reykjavík Pride Parade is the highlight of Reykjavík Pride
In the parade, lesbians, gay men, bisexual and pansexual people, transgender people, intersex people, and other LGBT+ individuals join their families and friends to assert their presence and highlight their causes. The parade serves as both a demonstration by LGBT+ people calling for equality, awareness, and an end to discrimination, and as a platform to celebrate the achievements made in the struggle.
The 2025 Reykjavík Pride Parade will take place on Saturday, Aug. 9. The parade will depart from Hallgrímskirkja church at 2pm sharp. The route proceeds along Skólavörðustígur, Bankastræti, Lækjargata, and Fríkirkjuvegur. While the official parade route concludes at the intersection of Fríkirkjuvegur and Skothúsvegur, participants will proceed onto Sóleyjargata and into Hljómskálagarður park for the start of the outdoor concerts.
Check out the program – everyone is welcome!
Happy Reykjavík Pride!
