Scouts and a school band prepare to lead a parade in Bústaðahverfi for First Day of Summer

The city will be bustling with activity tomorrow for First Day of Summer, with scout groups and school bands among those hosting events.

Here's the First Day of Summer schedule for Reykjavík scout groups:

Árbúar

  • Location - Árbær Open Air Museum
  • Timing: 12:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Program:

  • Parade from Ársel at 12:30 p.m. to Árbær Open Air Museum
  • Entertainment at Árbær Open Air Museum from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Evening ceremony at 3 p.m.
  • Stall

Garðbúar, Landnemar and Skjöldungar

  • Location - Family Park
  • Timing: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Program:

  • Bouncy castles
  • Stall
  • Pioneering projects
  • Outdoor cooking

Vogabúar

  • Location - Rimaskóli
  • Timing: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Program:

  • Bouncy castles
  • Cotton candy booth
  • Circus
  • Musical performance by Döðlurnar

Ægisbúar

  • Location - Neshagi Scout Hall
  • Timing 11:40 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Program:

Parade with Vesturbær and Miðbær school bands and a scout color guard

The parade starts at 11 a.m. from Melaskóli and goes to Vesturbæjarskóli. The planned route begins at Melaskóli, goes along Hagamelur, turns onto Hofsvallagata and then onto Ásvallagata. The parade ends at 11:30 a.m. at Vesturbæjarskóli, where the school band's summer celebration will be held.

First Day of Summer in Fossvogur and Bústaðahverfi neighborhoods

Bústaðakirkja will open at 11 a.m. with an art exhibition by local preschools in the church foyer.

The program at the church begins at 11:30 a.m. with performances by the Austurbær school band and Ketill Ágústsson, and an address by Hjalti Guðmundsson, chair of Réttarholtsskóli's student council.

A parade begins at noon from the Bústaðakirkja foyer, led by the Garðbúar scout group and accompanied by the Austurbær school band. The route follows Bústaðavegur and down Stjörnugróf to Víking, where family entertainment begins at 12:15 p.m.
