Reykjavík Parking Service received an award at the 2025 Public Innovation Awards held today. The award was given "for outstanding achievements in public innovation through transforming parking violation enforcement." A total of 36 parties were nominated and five received awards: two in the municipal category, two in the government agency category and one individual.

Public innovation includes improvement projects, new implementations or changed methods in public operations that create or increase value in government activities. The awards recognize outstanding achievements in public innovation over the past 12 months.

Thriving public sector innovation

Ingþór Karl Eiríksson, CEO of the Financial Management Authority, presented the awards and also served as chair of the selection committee. At the award ceremony, he said it was important to recognize those who have excelled to inspire all others. He also emphasized how wonderful it was to receive so many nominations, which clearly showed the thriving innovation happening in the public sector.

Reykjavík City welcomes the award, which confirms what City staff and visitors have experienced: with the introduction of new electronic enforcement by Reykjavík Parking Service, services have become more efficient and working conditions for parking attendants have improved.
