Red alert - many city facilities closed

Several city facilities have been closed due to a red weather alert. Weather conditions are expected to improve after midday, and some locations have already determined their reopening times.

A red alert is in effect until 1pm today, Thursday, February 6.

PEOPLE ARE URGED TO STAY HOME DURING THE STORM AND AVOID UNNECESSARY TRAVEL.

Disruptions to school and recreational activities today, Thursday, February 6

School and recreational activities experienced disruptions today. Primary schools, preschools and after-school programs will remain open with minimal staffing. In extreme emergencies, children may attend schools and after-school programs. Parents must notify school administrators and after-school program directors by email if their child will be attending.

Service center closed until 1pm

Due to severe weather, the Service Center at Höfðatorg and City Hall will be closed until 1pm today. Service advisors will be available as usual at 411-1111 and via live chat. You can also send a message to info@reykjavik.is

Department of Culture & Sports facilities closed

All Department of Culture & Sports facilities will remain closed at least until 1pm. Department facilities include Reykjavík swimming pools, geothermal beach, Reykjavík City Library, Reykjavík City Museum, Reykjavík Art Museum, Hitt Húsið Youth Center, Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo, and city ski areas including Bláfjöll. The following facilities have announced their reopening plans:

Reykjavík Family Park & Zoo: 1:30pm
Árbæjarlaug Pool: 1:30pm
Vesturbæjarlaug Pool: 1:30pm
Laugardalslaug Pool: 1:30pm
Dalslaug Pool: 2pm
Sundhöll Reykjavík Pool: 2pm
Klébergslaug Pool: 3pm
Breiðholtslaug Pool: Plans to reopen at 1pm, weather permitting.
Geothermal beach: 2:30pm

Other city services may be disrupted, especially if staff have trouble traveling between locations. Every effort will be made to limit impacts. Essential services will be prioritized. Managers of housing for disabled people, shelters, home care services, and other critical services are aware of the situation and will make necessary arrangements. We urge everyone to be cautious and closely monitor Civil Protection announcements, as forecasts can change rapidly.
