Public comment period open for environmental assessment report
An informational meeting on the environmental assessment for the Reykjanesbraut and Bústaðavegur intersection, and for part of CityLine's Phase 3 between Vogabyggð and Stekkjarbakki, will be held Monday, Aug. 25, at 5 p.m.
Anna Rut Arnardóttir and Berglind Hallgrímsdóttir from EFLA will present the environmental assessment findings at the meeting. The environmental assessment report is now available for review at the Planning Agency.
The meeting will take place in the Vindheimar conference room on the 7th floor of the Reykjavík City offices at Borgartún 14 (east entrance). The event is open to the public.
This project is part of the Transportation Charter between the state and six municipalities in the capital area and is being developed through collaboration between the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, Reykjavík City and Transport for the Capital Area.
The goal is to improve transportation for all modes of travel, reduce rush-hour traffic delays, and increase safety for road users.
Environmental impact assessed
The environmental impact of the proposed construction has been assessed, with the results published in an environmental assessment report now open for public comment via the Urban Planning Portal.
The report examines impacts on climate, archaeological sites, birds, geological formations, acoustics, air quality, landscape and visual elements, natural monuments, transportation and traffic safety, outdoor recreation, water resources, aquatic life, and water bodies.
The redesign of the Reykjanesbraut and Bústaðavegur intersection will eliminate traffic signals and give the CityLine route a dedicated right-of-way.
The public comment period is open until Sept. 16, 2025.
Written comments should be submitted through the Urban Planning Portal, to the Planning Agency at Borgartún 7b, 105 Reykjavík, or by email to skipulag@skipulag.is.
