Protecting human rights to ensure peace
The annual Imagine Forum is presented by the Höfði Peace Center of Reykjavík City, the University of Iceland, and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Association of Iceland on Oct. 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Veröld – Vigdís, University of Iceland.
Join the discussion about the importance of protecting human rights to secure lasting peace!
During times of rising authoritarianism, declining democracy, and rollbacks in human rights, including gender equality and LGBT+ rights, it is urgent to highlight how such rollbacks threaten the foundations of peacebuilding. When individual rights are limited and marginalized groups face systematic discrimination, governments undermine trust, social cohesion and public participation in democratic processes. Protecting human rights is therefore essential for ensuring lasting and just peace.
Limited seating is available.
Keynote speakers include:
- Nazanin Boniadi – internationally known actress and human rights advocate who focuses on women's rights and freedom of expression in Iran and beyond
- Varsen AghabekianShaheen, foreign minister of Palestine
- Jessica Stern – former U.S. special envoy for LGBTQI+ issues and scholar at the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights at Harvard Kennedy School
- Vladimir Kara-Murza – Russian journalist and democracy advocate who has been imprisoned for his open opposition to authoritarian practices and relentless fight for political freedom
