Male birds feed their young while females prepare for the next round of nesting. Redwings will start nesting next, since they begin somewhat later in the season.

Young birds face many dangers, particularly from domestic and feral cats. Pet cats should be kept indoors during bird nesting season, especially at night when cats do most of their hunting.

Bells and collars on cats help deter hunting behavior. Brightly colored cat collars make it much harder for cats to sneak up on prey because birds can easily spot the bright colors.

According to BirdLife Iceland's website, cats wearing collars catch up to 19 times fewer birds than cats without collars.
Let's all do our part to protect vulnerable birds during nesting season.
