Procedures for dockless bike and micromobility rental operations
Updated procedures for dockless bike and micromobility rental operations on Reykjavík’s city land are now available on the Reykjavík City Consultation Portal
Residents and other stakeholders can now submit suggestions on the draft procedures for operations that most people know as electric scooter rentals. This is an update to the current procedures from 2019.
Dockless micromobility rentals and scooter rentals currently operate under rules established six years ago. Based on experience gained, it's time to review these rules. The changes in this draft mainly focus on clearer requirements for operators to ensure devices aren't placed in ways that create hazards or inconvenience for other road users.
Reykjavík residents and other stakeholders are encouraged to submit suggestions on the draft updated procedures.
To simplify processing, we ask that when submitting suggestions regarding specific articles, you reference the relevant article in the procedural regulations and, where applicable, include proposals for text additions or changes. The Environment & Planning Council will make the final decision on procedures for dockless bike and micromobility rental operations on Reykjavík city land.
Key stakeholders include Reykjavík residents, the Icelandic Cyclists' Federation (Landssamtök hjólreiðamanna) (LHM), The Icelandic Disability Alliance (ÖBÍ), Hopp hf and Bolt hf
Comments can be submitted through the Consultation Portal until Aug. 15, 2025.
