Preschool staffing and waitlists better than last year

Children in preschool

The waitlist and staffing situation at Reykjavík preschools is significantly better than last year. On Sept. 3, 467 children ages 12 months and older were on waitlists for preschool openings, down from 653 at this time last year. The city's preschools currently have 52 vacant full-time positions, compared to 101 vacancies last year.

Children 18 months and older waiting for a preschool opening are new to the waitlist

Among the 467 children ages 12 months and older on preschool waitlists, 74 were 18 months or older as of Sept. 1, down from 183 last year. All children 18 months and older currently on the waitlist were added after the main enrollment period ended this spring, at which time all children in that age group were offered placement.
