The recalled plastic ladle

Ásbjörn Ólafsson ehf., in consultation with Reykjavík Public Health, has stopped the sale of and recalled plastic pasta ladles from consumers because chemicals are leaching from the plastic.

Reason for recall

Testing showed that chemicals called PAA (Primary Aromatic Amines) leaching from the plastic exceed limits set in European Union regulation No. 10/2011 for plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food. The product is therefore considered unsafe.

The problem relates to a production batch made in December 2024. You can identify this batch by clock symbols on the back of the handle:

  • The bottom clock shows the production month and should point to "12" (December).
  • The top clock shows the year and should point to "24" (2024).
