Pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Sæbraut officially opens
A new pedestrian and bicycle bridge over Sæbraut officially opened today. The bridge has been in use for several weeks but was officially opened during Mobility Week. Fifty fourth-grade children from Vogaskóli participated in the opening ceremony, and Circus Iceland performed entertainment at the site.
The bridge creates an important connection between the new Vogabyggð and Vogahverfi neighborhoods and greatly improves pedestrian safety, especially for school children attending Vogaskóli. The bridge also opens a new and safe pedestrian and bicycle route between Tranavogur and Snekkjuvogur.
Ensures traffic safety
The bridge serves as a temporary solution to ensure safe crossing over Sæbraut. It is constructed from modular units that can be reused and installed at other locations later. The bridge is covered, providing protection from weather and wind. Stairwells and elevators are located at both ends of the bridge to ensure access for everyone.
The bridge is expected to remain in use until construction begins on the Sæbraut Highway Cap.
Verkís designed the structure and Ístak handled construction. VBV Engineering provided oversight and project management. The Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration oversaw the project on behalf of the client.
The project is a joint effort between the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration, Reykjavík City and Transport for the Capital Area, and operates under the Transportation Charter agreement between the state and six municipalities in the capital area.
