Last week, Hólmasel Youth Center held an exciting new event for parents whose children participate in its programs. The event aimed to give parents a firsthand look at center activities and demonstrate why their children attend or could benefit from participating more often. The evening also provided an opportunity for parents to meet other families and staff members.
Parents try table tennis and video games
For the event, dubbed "Parents' Youth Center Experience," children and teens were asked to stay home and help with after-dinner cleanup. Meanwhile, parents experienced what a typical evening at Hólmasel is like for their children. The Hólmasel staff warmly welcomed parents and invited them to try all activities normally available to their children.
Parents responded enthusiastically to the event, enjoying rounds of table tennis, pool and darts. Many tried their hand at video games and explored the studio, while others browsed photo albums dating back to 1992, spotting familiar faces from when they themselves attended Hólmasel.
Building stronger parent partnerships
The center has decided to make this a monthly event for neighborhood parents, scheduled for the last Thursday of each month. Through this initiative, Hólmasel staff hope to offer parents a break from daily routines while fostering connections with the center, its staff and other neighborhood families. The center hopes this marks the beginning of enhanced parent engagement at Hólmasel Youth Center.
