New school year begins for Reykjavík primary schools

Children on their way to school.

The new school year started today with school orientation at Reykjavík City primary schools. Students headed excitedly to their schools with parents, where school staff gave them a warm welcome.

This year, about 15,700 children will attend Reykjavík primary schools, including approximately 1,500 children taking their first steps in primary school as they start first grade. School orientation is one of the schools' special days when students, parents and school staff come together to mark the beginning of home-school partnership for the coming school year.
