Music Experiments began yesterday. A record number of applications for Music Experiments this year is a clear sign that the city's music scene is flourishing.

Music Experiments is a music festival that offers an excellent chance to follow grassroots activity in Iceland's music scene, and past winners include bands like Of Monsters and Men, Samaris, Vök, Mínus and KUSK.

Ten bands performed in the first semifinal last night. In total, 42 bands will perform across four semifinals held March 27-30 at 7:30pm. Between 10 and 12 bands will advance to the Music Experiments finals on April 9 at 5pm. All events will take place in at Harpa's Northern Lights Hall.
