May 1, 2025 - street closures
Tomorrow, on Labor Day, there will be celebrations in the city center to mark the occasion. Streets will be closed for events from noon to 3:30pm.
As usual, the labor movement's protest march will be the centerpiece of May 1. Additionally, the Sniglarnir motorcycle club will hold a charity group ride, and a family event for members of the Reykjavík Commercial Workers' Union will take place at Klambratún park.
Sniglarniar charity group ride
The Republic's Motorcycle Association "Sniglarnir" will hold a charity group ride from Grandagarður at noon, ending at Reykjavík University around 1pm.
Traffic delays are expected due to the group ride, and travelers are kindly asked to be patient and considerate.
Reykjavík Commercial Workers' Union family event
The Reykjavík Commercial Workers' Union will host a family event at Klambratún park, with festivities beginning at 11:30am. A procession led by a brass band will walk from Klambratún to Skólavörðuholt at 1pm.
Labor movement protest march
The labor movement's protest march is a fixed part of May 1 celebrations. Participants will gather at Skólavörðuholt at 1:30pm, with street closures around Hallgrímskirkja church and along the march route beginning at noon.
The march will proceed to Ingólfstorg square, where a program commemorating the day will take place. Aðalstræti will be closed from 10am to 3:30pm.
Accessibility
Access for people with disabilities will be arranged so that vehicles with disability parking permits can pass through the staffed closure at Frakkastígur/Bergþórugata and into the parking area at Reykjavík Technical College, exiting the same way.
A drop-off spot will also be available at the staffed closure at the Eiríksgata/Njarðargata intersection.
