Maintenance closures at Reykjavík swimming pools this summer

The annual maintenance closures at Reykjavík swimming pools are approaching. Maintenance closures occur during summer months since outdoor maintenance work cannot be performed during winter.
During these closures, crews will complete structural repairs, painting, masonry work and general maintenance that cannot be performed during regular operating hours
Extended maintenance closure at Vesturbær swimming pool
Vesturbæjarlaug Pool will have a longer maintenance closure than other facilities due to the number of projects that need to be addressed. These projects include painting the pool basin, replacing the slide, relocating a basketball backboard, installing an elevator near the children's pool, replacing the emergency system and completing other general maintenance.
Construction of new saunas
Construction of new saunas at Vesturbæjarlaug will begin Friday, May 2. It will be necessary to close the private changing room during construction, as safe access to and from this area cannot be guaranteed due to its proximity to the construction zone.
This also affects wheelchair access to Vesturbæjarlaug during this period, as the wheelchair entrance is located within the construction area.
Outdoor changing rooms will remain open, but lockers will be moved to the lobby, and access to the changing rooms will be from the pool area.
During maintenance closures, residents might enjoy breaking from routine and visiting another swimming pool in Reykjavík. Maintenance closures typically don't significantly overlap between swimming pools.
