Lively rainbow celebration at after-school programs
The after-school programs at Kringlumýri recreation center, which serves children in the Laugardalur, Háaleiti and Bústaðahverfi neighborhoods, joined forces yesterday to celebrate Rainbow Day – a fun and colorful event that celebrates the importance of recreational activities in children's lives.
Stations with challenges and games
The day began with a parade from Þróttur where children and staff walked together to the Laugarsel after-school program. A lively celebration followed with diverse games and challenges that each after-school program had carefully prepared. The children tried various fun activities in different areas, from dueling and finger knitting to tug-of-war. Each after-school program represented one color of the rainbow, and together they created a colorful whole that reflected the diversity and joy that define recreational activities.
Police visit sparks excitement
Community police took an active part in the celebration and arrived with two motorcycles and a police car. The children got to examine the vehicles, sit on the motorcycles and chat with the police, which created great excitement and interest.
At the end of the day, all the children received ice cream and a group photo was taken to remember the day. Preparation for Rainbow Day took place at the after-school programs where the children painted shirts, flags and decorations in each program's colors – which created a fun and personal atmosphere at the celebration.
Rainbow Day is a unique opportunity to showcase the important and creative work that happens at after-school programs. The emphasis was on play, social skills and child democracy, and the children enjoyed themselves immensely.
