Lease agreement signed for new preschool on Rafstöðvarvegur

Reykjavík City has signed a lease agreement with Rafklettur ehf. for property at Rafstöðvarvegur 7 and 9, where a new preschool will be built. This is an important step in increasing preschool openings in the city, in line with approved proposals from the mayor and a working group focused on improvements to early childhood education.
The preschool will serve about 100 children
The preschool will have 6 to 7 divisions and will serve about 100 children in approximately 1,600 square meters. The facility will be delivered move-in ready 12 months after the contract is signed, with the lease term running until July 1, 2041.
The landlord will handle construction according to approved drawings and specifications. The facility will also be inspected before delivery to ensure it is free from moisture and mold damage and meets all requirements of public regulatory authorities.

Important step to increase preschool openings
Rent payments will be based on the consumer price index, and the tenant will be responsible for operating costs such as heating, electricity and cleaning. Reykjavík City will have both priority and first right of refusal on the property if it is offered for sale during the lease term.
This agreement marks an important step toward meeting the growing need for preschool openings in the city and ensuring children have a safe and well-equipped environment for early education.
