Klettaskóli and Langholtsskóli advance to Skrekkur finals
The third and final semifinal round of Skrekkur 2025 took place at Reykjavík City Theater last night, Nov. 5. 248 young people took part in the evening's event, showcasing their diverse talents in original stage performances.
Circus and humanity's takeover of the earth
Klettaskóli advanced to the finals with "Circus Stars," (Sirkus stjörnur) a performance about a circus featuring a ringmaster who tells jokes and introduces various acts. Langholtsskóli advanced with "More Than Enough," (Meira en nóg) which explores humanity's dominion over the earth and its treatment of animals and nature, a relationship marked by greed and dominance. Organizers also announced today that two additional schools were selected to advance, joining the six already in the finals: Háteigsskóli and Foldaskóli.
Eight primary schools participated: Dalskóli, Foldaskóli, Háteigsskóli, Klettaskóli, Langholtsskóli, Norðlingaskóli, Réttarholtsskóli and Rimaskóli.
Háteigssskóli and Foldaskóli advance as "wild cards"
Háteigsskóli's entry, "Trail of Misfortune," (Óheillaspor) is about a young boy who decides to try drugs at a party. He quickly becomes addicted, and his friends try to help him escape the cycle. The piece illustrates how one decision can change everything.
Foldaskóli's performance, "I Am...," (Ég er…..) follows two best friends, one of whom comes out as a transgender boy. The friend initially struggles with the change but, through self-reflection, realizes that it's perfectly fine and there's nothing unusual about queerness.
A total of 742 students are participating in Skrekkur this year. All performances are available on the UngRUV.is website.
