Improvements to the islet in Tjörnin continue this week as the project works to strengthen bird life at Tjörnin. The first phase completed soil replacement and prepared the area for new pasture grass. This upcoming phase will complete reconstruction of the stone wall and seaweed installation.

The contractor, Sólgarður slf, will transport machinery and materials by barge from the diving service out to the islet. Work is expected to start around midweek and should be completed within the month.

Similar work was previously completed at Þorfinnstjörn with good results, where tern nesting has increased significantly. Through these efforts, Reykjavík City is following recommendations from biologists who have monitored the biota of Tjörnin for years.
