Hlíðaskóli celebrates 70th anniversary with spectacular advent celebration
Hlíðaskóli recently held a grand celebration for its 70th anniversary with an advent and anniversary festival where students showcased the diverse and creative work that defines the school. The festival took place at the school and drew strong attendance from parents, families and guests.
Instrumental music, dance and song
Hlíðaskóli's emphasis on craft and fine arts was clearly evident in the program. The school choir performed beautiful Christmas songs under the direction of music teacher Sigríður Jóhannsdóttir and special education teacher Rakel Guðmundsdóttir. Students from the Vesturbær and city center school band played instruments, while performances by dance students also took center stage with contemporary dance and scenes from musicals.
Showed excerpts from musicals
Hlíðaskóli has long maintained the tradition of staging musicals in all grades, and guests got to see excerpts from these popular productions. Seventh-grade students performed scenes from the musical "From Past to Future" and performed songs both sung and in sign language. The program also featured dance scenes from Cardamom Town and other entertaining performances.
The show ended with a heartwarming Christmas song that created a warm, cozy atmosphere. Clearly, Hlíðaskóli takes pride in its creative work and strong artistic tradition that has defined the school for 70 years.
After the program ended, guests were invited to tour the school and view the elaborate decorations while enjoying various entertainment in the classrooms. Finally, everyone was offered anniversary cake and hot chocolate in the gymnasium.
