Groundwork begins for temporary school campus in Laugardalur

Due to extensive renovations of school facilities in Laugardalur, the City Executive Council has approved leasing portable classrooms for a temporary school campus.
The temporary school campus will house students from Laugarnes School, Laugalækjarskóli and Langholtsskóli while construction work continues at their school buildings. Laugarnesskóli will be the first to move part of its operations to the temporary school campus.
First classrooms planned to move to the site in July
The lowest bid came from Stólpi Gámar, with the lease agreement expected to run for five years from delivery. The City will cover costs for excavation, foundations and utilities, and that work started this week.
The temporary school campus will consist of five classrooms relocated from another school in Reykjavík, plus 11 additional classrooms that have been purchased. The first 10 classrooms should be delivered during the first semester of the next school year. The goal is for the first four classrooms to be delivered for inspection in September/October 2025, with the next six about a month later. However, it's important to keep in mind that projects like this always carry the risk of unexpected issues arising.
Preparation for moving the buildings that the City already owns, currently located at Sæmundarskóli in Grafarholt, will begin in the coming days, with the move scheduled for July.
Updates on construction progress can be followed on Reykjavík City's website.
