Further digitalization of building permit application process
In December 2022, Reykjavík City adopted a building permit application interface developed by the Housing and Construction Authority (HMS). The goal was to simplify the process and improve both the experience for service users and the efficiency of application processing—an effort that has proven successful. The next phase of this initiative is now underway. Beginning Sept. 29, service users will complete all confirmations in the process using electronic IDs.
This means the responsible party will register directly within the Housing and Construction Authority's application process.
The application process will close temporarily on Friday, Sept. 26, as data is transferred to the new interface. The application system will reopen on Monday, Sept. 29, at noon once this work is complete.
Reykjavík City's planning and construction office welcomes these improvements. This change will further increase building permit processing efficiency and give designers, contractors, and other service users a clearer overview of an application's status, from submission through final issuance.
