Applications are now open for the Ellý Katrín Educational Grant, which is awarded to university students who wish to contribute to environmental and climate change initiatives.
Reykjavík City provides this grant in memory of Ellý Katrín Guðmundsdóttir, a lawyer and former Chief Executive Officer, who pioneered environmental and climate change efforts for the city.
She led the integration of transportation and environmental policies while managing international climate collaborations, spearheading projects that opened new environmental dimensions for the city. As a result, Reykjavík City established its first greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Numerous sustainability projects were completed under Ellý's leadership, as she served as an exemplary role model and inspiration to her colleagues.
Application deadline: April 30
The grant is awarded annually, with recipients announced on Ellý's birthday, September 15. The grant aims to support and encourage graduate studies in environmental and/or climate fields, strengthening future expertise in these areas.
The grant supports master's theses or projects focused on environmental and/or climate issues. The application deadline is April 30, 2025.
