Ellý Katrín Scholarship

The goal of the Ellý Katrín Scholarship is to foster further studies in environmental and climate change issues, thereby expanding future knowledge in the field. The scholarship is awarded for work on a master's project.

To be eligible for the scholarship, applicants must be engaged in graduate-level studies related to environmental and/or climate change issues.

  • Award amounts: A maximum of 500 thousand ISK.
  • Priority is given to projects concerning Reykjavík City or municipalities in general.
  • The award will be announced on Ellý's birthday, September 15.

About Ellý Katrín

Ellý Katrín Guðmundsdóttir, a lawyer, served Reykjavík City for nearly 20 years, initially as Head of the Environmental Agency, then as Head of the Department of Environment and Transport, and finally as City Secretary.

 

Ellý Katrín was a pioneer in environmental and climate change initiatives for the city. She led the integration of transportation and environmental policies while managing international climate collaborations, spearheading projects that opened new environmental dimensions for the city. As a result, Reykjavík City established its first greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Numerous sustainability projects were completed under Ellý's leadership, as she served as an exemplary role model and inspiration to her colleagues.

Who can apply for support?

All graduate students pursuing studies in environmental and/or climate change fields. The scholarship supports the completion of a master's thesis or project. Note that work on the thesis may have begun when applying, but must not be completed.

How do I apply?

What can the scholarship be used for?

All expenses directly related to the project, such as tuition or research implementation costs.

What is the amount of the support?

Applicants may request a specific amount, up to 500,000 Icelandic króna.

Is the scholarship awarded to only one recipient?

Typically, one scholarship is awarded, but the committee may divide the funds between two recipients if special circumstances warrant.
