Tjörnin Hall at Reykjavík City Hall buzzed with excitement this morning as the Christmas forest officially opened.

Preschool children from five city preschools attended the forest opening this morning, eagerly waiting to meet Grýla and Leppalúði, who were scheduled to visit.

The preschool children sat quietly with the mayor while Grýla and Leppalúði beamed their brightest smiles.
Leikskólabörnin sátu stillt og prúð með borgarstjóra og Grýla og Leppalúði brostu sínu blíðasta.

This marks the 14th time Tjörnin Hall has been transformed into a Christmas forest, with designer Jökull Jónsson overseeing the project. A beautifully decorated Christmas tree stands in the center of the hall, with miniature gingerbread houses displayed in the background.

Grýla and Leppalúði arrived to greet the children and tell stories about the Yule Lads, as the time approaches for Sheep-Cote Clod, the first Yule Lad, to arrive in town. Mayor Heiða B. Hilmisdóttir welcomed the children, Grýla, and Leppalúði to the Christmas forest. Everyone sang Christmas songs and danced around the Christmas tree. Hot chocolate and cookies were served afterward.
